After a familial link is established, and the identity confirmed following a meeting of the Identification Committee, the concerned family members are invited to meet the scientists involved in the identification process at a specifically designated venue to receive a briefing about the entire process and ask questions. Family members also have the opportunity pay their respects to the remains of their deceased relative if they wish to do so. Identified remains are then returned to the family in accordance with their wishes.
ODAIT cooperates with the National Counselling Service (NCS) who are available to support and guide family members throughout all stages of the project. ODAIT will inform the family of the identification of their loved one, and subsequently assist with the practical organisational requirements for the family’s visit to the ODAIT Laboratory for a discussion with the scientists. ODAIT will also be able to assist with the arrangement of the burial and, together with NCS, continue their support if requested by the family.
