8th July 2025
On Tuesday 8th July, ODAIT held an event for family members and survivors to gather together in Tuam prior to the commencement of the excavation.
A visit to the site was arranged where family members met with Daniel MacSweeney, Director of Authorised Intervention, Tuam, and with Dr. Niamh McCullagh, Forensic Archaeologist, who explained the phases of the excavation and answered questions.
Following the visit to the site, an informal reception was held at the Ard Rí hotel, where family members and survivors were able to meet members of the ODAIT team, share their stories with one another and remember their loved ones. A reflective space was made available, and those present were invited to contribute their thoughts, feelings or wishes to the Moment in Time tree, which will be preserved in ODAIT’s archive.
Out of respect for the privacy of those in attendance, ODAIT did not take photographs of participants on the day.
